ORPHEUS IS HERE
After unveiling the Orpheus A Four I200 integrated amplifier (above) at the Audio Show Deluxe, we are pleased to announce that the full Swiss-Made Orpheus Lab line-up is now available in the UK through Boyer Audio!
Just today the UK’s first unit has arrived at Studio AV - contact them at sales@studioav.co.uk or 01753 260215 to arrange a listening session.
The company is named after the Orpheus of Greek mythology, a Thracian bard who could charm all living things - and even a stone - with his music, armed with a lyre gifted to him by the God Apollo. And you would be forgiven for thinking there might be something mythical about the products created by this core group of four Swiss audio engineers.
Our Journey to Orpheus
Orpheus Lab is not a new name in high-end audio by any means. Founded in 2001, they have been crafting exceptional products for over two decades and impressing listeners and reviewers along the way.
We had our first run-in with Orpheus in Munich in 2023. Remember this room?
Indeed our friend Miguel at Kroma Atelier has been aware of what Orpheus can do longer than we have. We really took note of the musicality being produced by the simple Orpheus-Kroma system (using the Leonore standmount speakers).
We returned to Munich again in 2024 with Orpheus top of mind, and this time we were really impressed with another (heavier duty) Orpheus-Kroma system, this time using the same Seychelles Blue Jovita speakers that we showcased this year at the Audio Show Deluxe. Remember this room?
Well, we certainly do. And we ordered the company’s entry-level A Four I200 integrated amplifier immediately after the show, receiving in July 2024, and strapping in for a good 9 months of testing, interspersed with conversations with dealers and distributors abroad. We don’t rush into things at Boyer Audio!
There was a tangible buzz and consensus among friends that this was “the best amplifier within £20k”, and after those 9 months of living with it and listening to it leading up to the Audio Show Deluxe in March 2025, we had come to agree that it quite possibly was.
Audio Show Deluxe was the big reveal, and the validation, that we hoped it would be. Visitors took us aside in the hallway after hearing the amplifier to rave about how lifelike and musical it sounded - and always with a hint of disbelief at the price. It’s a truly special component in its own right - but especially at £16k - it really is a revelation.
And it’s not just the sound. Seeing it in pictures is one thing, photographic trickery is always a possibility, but in the flesh we marvel at the incredible metalwork. The anodized aluminium finish is absolutely impeccable, and frankly some of the best we’ve ever seen. The quality feeling of the volume dial is equally noteworthy - it’s the difference between just ‘casually turning up the volume’ vs. commanding an instrument.
Swiss-Made is not just a declaration of origin with Orpheus, it’s a promise of quality and craftsmanship that is taken very seriously. Everything we associate with Swiss-made: precision, quality, durability - be it in timepieces or knives - is present here.
They are indeed precious instruments, just like Orpheus’ mythical lyre, that you will not be disappointed to unbox and use time and time again, and that will enchant every living thing around them. And who knows? Perhaps even a stone.
We will be updating our website to add the Orpheus Lab brand in due course, with a full product and price list. Stay tuned. In the meantime get in touch with Guillaume by phone or e-mail for more information.
