Beauty or functionality? For Aeroline the answer is both in equal measure. Carbon fibre is used at every connection point between the supporting structure and shelves for superior dampening, and there is no shortage of elegant ceramic panel finishes.

Nothing about these racks is mass-produced. Bassocontinuo works with a highly local network of suppliers around Bergamo who take pride in their craft. The leatherwork, carpentry, metalwork and carbon fibre are all by hand, and where machinery is used for certain tasks, the pieces are always hand-finished. There are many rack manufacturers on the market; few seriously address the problem of vibration, even fewer do it scientifically. Bassocontinuo works with an industry-leading consulting firm for static and dynamic testing of its products using state-of-the-art equipment.
The racks are subjected to static test cycles with laser equipment that determines their compliance, vertical and horizontal deformations and breaking loads, thus enabling Bassocontinuo to certify the capacity of the shelves and structure them for longer life.
The next step is dynamic characterization with detection by mono and triaxial accelerometers positioned in 52 points. The tests make it possible to reconstruct the modal deformities of each shelf and understand which forces interact with the structure when vibrations are generated, controlled in terms of amplitude and frequency by means of a seismic exciter.
Recorded are parameters such as transmissibility (to understand if there are frequency bands for which the vibrations coming from the floor are amplified), the time course of the frequency response functions, and damping as a function of resonance frequencies.
The results allow Bassocontinuo to review structures and materials, optimize the response at lower frequencies (the most harmful ones), and apply damping masses or dampers as needed.
