“The Orpheus [integrated amplifier] may not be the most powerful amp, or the one with the deepest bass, the sweetest treble, or the widest soundstage in its price range. However, it stands apart from the competition by presenting all of these characteristics in a coherent, unified, and wisely balanced way—in a word, truthful.
Its sense of texture, palpability, and harmonic density is far above the norm in this segment, resulting in musical reproduction that feels alive, organic, and true to the original performance. It invites you to listen to piece after piece simply for the pure pleasure of discovering new interpretations in recordings you thought you knew completely—only to realise they still had more to offer.
The level of transparency is superb. With a fundamentally neutral response and remarkable timbral fidelity, it allows you to focus your attention on a particular instrument or section within a symphonic orchestra in a way that is highly unusual and rare at this price point.
I have no hesitation in saying that the Integrated A Four I200 deserves a place on the podium of great integrated amplifiers. It not only challenges the superiority of preamp + power amp setups, but may well be the more rational choice, thanks to the savings an integrated option offers — all while delivering the same level of sonic performance… I can only say that I was completely won over by its musical qualities.”
